Information Technology Specialist

Coordinates the implementation of computer-based services and applications in support of the unit's mission. Coordinates compliance with operational and security requirements as directed by the Department of the Interior and National Park Service regulations. Conducts the installation of automatic data processing resources to include the installation of computer hardware, local/wide area network hardware, computer and network system operating software, software upgrades and modification, major software applications, and network and data security. Provides assistance with the management of system resources to ensure system optimal performance, availability and serviceability; manages network accounts, operating access rights and access to system modules and other computer and network resources; ensures the rigorous application of information security policies, principles and practices in the delivery of network services. Installs new and upgraded hardware including software applications; resolving hardware/software interface and interoperability problems; maintains documentation, configuration specifications including ensuring compliance to already developed systems administration standards and operating procedures. Prepares the diagnosis and resolution of problems for a wide variety of applications, operating systems, proposals and equipment. Installs, configures, troubleshoots and maintains customer hardware and software. Coordinates and assists with customer training. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/10/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of an Information Technology Specialist. Examples of specialized experience include:
(1) providing support to others in using information technology via personal computers (PCs) and associated peripheral devices; (2) integrating computer systems components, such as databases, hardware configuration and software installation and setup; (3) evaluating, selecting, verifying, and validating systems software and hardware environments; and (4) troubleshooting and monitoring network and office equipment configurations, ascertaining root cause and impact, and providing recommendations for resolution. In addition to the specialized experience your resume should show IT experience demonstrating each of the four competencies as described in the evaluation section of this announcement:

Possess a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that includes major study in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
